Answer the passport question per product
The EU digital product passport arrives in phases, each asking for more information than the last. The useful question for an exporter is not whether you are "compliant" but which phase a given product already satisfies and exactly what is missing for the next one.
The passport scorer answers that product by product, against the 2027, 2030 and 2033 information sets — so preparation becomes a short list of fields rather than a consulting project.
The same number everywhere
The passport does not run its own carbon calculation. It delegates to the engine that produces your reported figures, so the footprint a customer scans is the same auditable number, backed by the same receipt.
Passports are issued as signed verifiable credentials under a did:web identity, and can be exported in the WBCSD Pathfinder ProductFootprint data model when a buyer asks for that format.

When do we need a Digital Product Passport?
There is no single date. ESPR gives the Commission the power to set requirements product group by product group through delegated acts, so the answer depends on when the act covering your products arrives. Textiles and batteries are early.
The work that takes time is not the passport format. It is being able to state, per product, what it is made of and where that came from.
Is your product passport the official EU one?
It is a signed, machine-readable product record built on the structures the EU work points at — a W3C Verifiable Credential, a GS1 Digital Link, a public scan URL.
Whether a given passport satisfies a particular delegated act is a question about that act, and we will not claim conformity with a requirement that has not been written for your product group yet.
