Textiles: from fibre to product passport

Product carbon footprints and EU passport readiness for exporters who sell into Europe.

The buyer asks before the regulator does

In textiles the product passport usually arrives as a purchasing condition from a European brand rather than as a letter from a regulator — and with a shorter deadline than legislation would have given.

Product carbon footprints, fibre composition, care data and scheme certificates are carried together, so a buyer request becomes a lookup rather than a project.

Product level, not company level

A company total does not answer a buyer asking about one fabric. Footprints are calculated per product and per route, with the factor provenance attached, and published through a QR route the buyer can open themselves.

The buyer does not have to take your word for it

In textiles the hard part is not producing the figure — it is convincing the brand of it, because the brand receives a similar table from every supplier and can check none of them. The page behind the QR is not a PDF: it shows the footprint's receipt, and the brand can recompute the hash in its own browser.

Each record also states where it came from — whether the figure came off a signed meter, was read from an invoice, or was declared. A careful supplier and a careless one no longer look identical to the brand; the difference goes on the record.
