Cradle-to-gate

A boundary that counts emissions from raw material extraction up to the factory gate — excluding distribution, use and disposal.

Cradle-to-gate stops where the product leaves your control. Cradle-to-grave continues through distribution, use and end of life.

Gate-to-gate is narrower still: your own site only.

None is more correct than the others; they answer different questions. What is not acceptable is comparing across boundaries without saying so, because a cradle-to-gate figure will always look smaller than a cradle-to-grave one for the same product, and the difference is definitional rather than real.
