EUDR

The EU regulation prohibiting placing certain commodities on the market unless they are deforestation-free and legally produced.

EUDR covers cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and wood, and products derived from them. Operators must show that goods were not produced on land deforested after 31 December 2020, and must collect geolocation data for the plots of origin.

It is a due-diligence regulation rather than a carbon one, but it lands on the same function inside a company and demands the same thing: verifiable knowledge of where material actually came from.

Its application dates have been amended more than once. The current position is worth checking against the consolidated text rather than an earlier summary.
